NTA-CSIR-UGC-NET CBT Based Examination For JRF And Lectureship: 

From December 2019, On Behalf Of UGC, The National Testing Agency (NTA) Conducting National Eligibility Test (NET) To Determine Eligibility For Lectureship And For The Award Of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) For Indian Nationals In Order To Ensure Minimum Standards For The Entrants In The Teaching Profession And Research.

 

About Joint CSIR-UGC-NET/JRF:

The Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research (CSIR) Conducts The CSIR-UGC-NET/JRF Exam For Science Subjects, Namely, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, And Earth Atmospheric Ocean And Planetary Sciences Jointly With The UGC. The Exam Conducted Jointly With The Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. The Concerned Notification Is Issued Separately By CSIR.

Age Limit And Relaxation:

  1. JRF: Candidates' Age Should Not More Than 28 Years. Relaxation Will Be Up To 3 Years Is Provided To The Candidates Belonging To OBC (Non-creamy Layer. Relaxation Up To 5 Years For SC/ST/PwD/Transgender Categories And To Women Applicants.
    Relaxation Will Also Be Provided To The Candidates Having Research Experience, Limited To The Period Spent On Research In The Relevant/related Subject Of Post-graduation Degree, Subject To A Maximum Of 5 Years, On The Production Of A Certificate From An Appropriate Authority.
  2. Assistant Professor: There Is No Upper Age Limit For Applying For Assistant Professor.

 

Exemption (Eligibility For Assistant Professor):

  1. NET/SET/SLET Shall Remain The Minimum Eligibility Condition For Recruitment And Appointment Of Assistant Professors In Universities/Colleges/ Institutions.
    In This Regard, Exemption From NET/SET/SLET Will Be Governed By UGC Regulations And Amendments Notified In The Gazette Of India From Time To Time.
  2. The Candidates Who Have Passed The UGC/CSIR JRF Examination Prior To 1989 Are Also Exempted From Appearing In NET.
  3. For SET Candidates: The Candidates Who Have Cleared The States Eligibility Test (SET) Accredited By UGC For Assistant Professor Held Prior To 1st June 2002, Are Exempted From Appearing In NET, And Are Eligible To Apply For Assistant Professor Anywhere In India. For SET Held From 1st June 2002 Onwards, The Qualified Candidates Are Eligible To Apply For The Post Of Assistant Professor Only In The Universities/colleges Situated In The State From Where They Have Cleared Their SET.

 

Minimum Educational Qualification For CSIR/UGC-NET/JRF:


Candidate Should Appear For The Masteral Degree Or Completed The Masteral Equivalent Degree With At Least 55% Marks For General And OBC Candidates 50% For SC/ST Candidates, Physically And Visually Handicapped Candidates.

 

Eligibility:


1. Candidates Who Have Secured At Least 55% Marks In Master’s Degree Or Equivalent Examination From Universities/institutions Recognized By UGC.
The Other Backward Classes (OBC) Belonging To Non-creamy Layer/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/persons With Disability (PwD) Category Candidates Who Have Secured At Least 50% Marks.

  1. Candidates Who Are Pursuing Their Master’s Degree Or Equivalent Course Or Candidates Who Have Appeared For Their Qualifying Master’s Degree (final Year) Examination May Also Apply For This Test. Such Candidates Must Complete Their Master’s Degree Or Equivalent Examination Within Two Years From The Date Of NET Result With Required Percentage Of Marks, Failing Which They Shall Be Treated As Disqualified.

  2. Candidates Belonging To The Transgender Category Would Be Eligible To Draw The Same Relaxation In Fee, Age And Qualifying Criteria For NET (i.e. JRF And Assistant Professor) As Are Available To SC/ST/PwD Categories.

  3. The Ph.D. Degree Holders Whose Master’s Level Examination Have Been Completed By 19th September 1991.

 

NET/JRF Exam Schedule:


NTA-UGC And CSIR-UGC Are Conducting NET EXAM Twice In A Year, I.e. Month Of June And December. The Notifications Announcing The June And December Examinations Generally Publish In The Months Of February Or March And August Or September Respectively In The Weekly Journals Of Nation-wide Circulation, Viz, Employment News And Through The Website.

 

Scholarship:


The Scholarship Of The JRF (NET) Fellowship, At Present, Is 31,000/- Per Month Plus HRA.
After Completion Of Two Years As JRF (NET), The Stipend Of A Fellow Will Be Increased To 35,000/-p.m. Called As SRF (Senior Research Fellow) For The 3rd Year Onwards On The Basis Of The Students’ Progress And Research Publication. The Total Tenure Of JRF 2 Years And SRF 3 Years Will Be For 5 Years Only.
